To GO or NOT to go for Sports Class

In our family, we’ve been learning to practice something simple yet profound: discerning God’s holy will, even in the small things. It’s not always clear, and often, it requires patience, prayer, and a willingness to listen deeply.

One day, I booked a homeschool session for Immanuel, but Dan’s shoulder wasn’t doing well. I considered postponing or shifting Immanuel to another class. We paused and prayed. After discerning together, we felt led to go ahead with the original plan.

To our surprise—the session had no other children. Immanuel was the only one there. On one hand, it meant he missed out on peer interaction. But on the other, the instructor had all the time to focus solely on him. It was a blessing in disguise.

We’ve come to believe that not everything that looks like a setback is truly a setback. Sometimes, what seems like a detour is actually God’s gentle redirection. Whether it’s a quiet class, a change in plans, or an unexpected challenge, we trust that everything is either allowed or blessed by the Lord.

We continue to pray for clarity—to hear His voice clearly and to have the courage to follow it. In today’s world, where decisions can feel overwhelming and safety uncertain, we need His guidance more than ever.

Even Immanuel is learning this. One day, he asked me for something, and I asked, “Did you pray about it?” He smiled and said, “You got me again.” We’re all learning, aren’t we?

So I challenge my family—and myself—to keep asking that simple but powerful question:
“Have you prayed about it?”
